Let It Go

Went for my first run of 2014 this morning. It was actually the first time in a loooong time. I’ll give myself the benefit of the doubt and say the last time I ran was early December…but I’m pretty sure I haven’t been out since well before Thanksgiving. No bueno.

The sun was out in full effect along w/ the black ice of death. After nearly tumbling down a hill, I kept my pace slow and steady (yup, that’s the reason I ran so slowly, not the fact that I haven’t been out in months and am terribly out of shape). And who starts their first run since November off w/ the biggest hill in the neighborhood? Me, that’s who. Go big or go home. I almost did go home halfway up Everest, but then Gold Digger came on and got me pumped up enough to reach the top. From there, it was smooth sailing…until I got to the bottom and almost quit again.

When I got home and mapped it out I saw that it was a little over 3 miles. There was nothing remarkable about it, certainly not worth a blog post (but why do I blog about any of the shit I do?) When I was stretching out I heard on the radio that studies show today, January 15, is the day most people typically drop their resolution. I didn’t resolve to run more, eat less, or stop the sugar train this year, but I was feeling pretty smug after hearing that, in my post run high.

I should have resolved to see more movies, I've already blown that out of the water. This past week I saw Anchorman 2, American Hustle and Frozen. Frozen was the obvious favorite, and I've been prancing around singing Let it Go ever since. Disney just gets it.

While it’s not technically a resolution, I do want to get in kick ass shape this year. Especially since this is the dress I’ll be walking down the aisle to come November. Not very forgiving.

yup, 2007 will be a big year for me.

It’s so easy to quit. Resolved to save more? Eff that, those brown boots are a must for making it through the rest of winter. Resolved to eat less? Bitch please, it’s 10 degrees out and a salad just doesn’t cut it. Resolved to make more time for your kids? Eh, they’ll be there next year, bond with ‘em then.

Why do we give up so easily? I mean, January 15? That’s nothing. That’s not even long enough to say you gave it a fair shot. I owe this new haughtiness to the book I just checked out of the library: “The Power of Habit.” Haven’t started it yet, but I’m not letting that curb my self-righteousness.

I have no idea where this post is going, or what my efforts at being tongue-in-cheek have yielded. Safe to say that the introduction of running into my routine again has wreaked havoc on my body and my mind. Whatever you’re doing today, own it. Whether you’re dropping your resolution like third period French, or hitting the gym after work today w/ renewed enthusiasm, embrace it.

Queen Elsa knows what I'm talking about.
