Disney Til I Die

Today I’m stealing a questionnaire I saw Steph post a few weeks ago. It should come as no surprise that I’m a TOTAL Disney person. It’s not something I brag about, b/c I know people think adult Disney fans are weird, and I’m probably not helping w/ that stigma. I’m not rocking a Goofy hat in public or anything, but I do have a stuffed safari Pluto and I listen to Disney music more than is socially acceptable for a 30-year-old and in the winter I practically live in this long t-shirt that has all the princesses on it (WHAT it was like three dollars at Kohl’s).

To make it easy on myself -since Disney has made like a million trillion movies- I’m going to stick to the animated classics for the purpose of these questions. As much as I love The Parent Trap and Pirates of the Caribbean and Freaky Friday (why did you go crazy, LL, your Disney movies were so good!) I’m only considering it if it’s animated.

this has nothing to do w/ any of my answers, but it seemed appropriate

Favorite Disney Movie?
The Little Mermaid. See my very recent post where I realize Ariel isn’t the role model I once thought she was but am still ride-or-die. She’s a mermaid.

Runners up include Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and Frozen.

Wait! And The Lion King and Tangled and Wreck-it-Ralph.

Oh, and Ratatouille. I love that little chef.

Least Favorite Disney Movie?
No movie immediately came to mind for this one, even though there are a bunch I wouldn’t sit through today. Am I breaking my own rule by saying Mary Poppins? I know there’s real people in it, but there’s still animation, right? Well, it’s my blog and my rules, so I’m going to say Mary Poppins. Brent and I just watched this b/c I hadn’t seen it and they referenced it a few times in London and I fell asleep like ten minutes in, woke up for twenty minutes, then fell asleep until the final ten minutes. Don’t worry, I watched the songs on the Disney DVD bonus features. You could argue it doesn’t count b/c I didn’t see enough of it, but from what I saw, it ranks very low on my list.

Most Overrated?
Generally I think whatever is riding the current Disney wave is worth the hype. SOME people might think Frozen is overrated until they watch it and are like holy shit, these songs are awesome and there’s a shocking plot twist and Queen Elsa proves women everywhere don’t need a man and it’s like Disney is finally catching up to the times. I thought all the publicity for Moana was annoying until I watched it and loved it. I guess I would say Wall-E. I know people who love that movie. Don’t get me wrong, Wall-E himself is adorable. But the movie itself is kind of boring and sad and not what I’m looking for when I’m watching a Disney movie.

Most Underrated?
The Emperor’s New Groove. Hands down, this movie is one of Disney’s funniest.

Saddest?
Ugh, who knows. I cry during literally every Disney movie. Usually in the beginning when the mom/brother/grandfather dies and then again near the end before they make everything right again. I just can’t help myself. Wall-E is sad, but its take on humanity is more depressing than sad. I haven’t seen it in a while, but I remember thinking The Hunchback of Notre Dame was really sad, too.

Favorite Princess?
Ariel. Duh.

Favorite Prince?
This is a tough one. I love Kristoff, but is he technically a prince? (and I definitely thought his name was spelled Christoph until I just looked it up) I love Prince Eric and the Beast, and yes, I like him better as the beast than when he’s turned human at the end and no one even knows his prince name.

Favorite Villain?
Ursula scared the shit out of me as a little kid. Cruella de Vil is also on my shitlist. Leave the puppies alone! As an adult, I think Shere Khan is unfairly vilified. He was just trying to protect the jungle. Humans ruin everything and Mowgli had to go.

Favorite Sidekick?
Too many to name. I know Sebastian isn’t really the sidekick like Flounder is, but he’s absolutely one of my favorites. Same w/ Lumiere and Olaf. Don’t forget about Gus-Gus from Cinderella! And I totally agree w/ Steph about Mushu.

But Abu? We’re cut from the same cloth, that little monkey and me.

Favorite Animal?
Brent loves Maximus, the horse from Tangled, and I have to agree.

Favorite Song?
Why don’t you ask me to pick a favorite sister? My favorite songs plural include the entire soundtracks to The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, Frozen and Moana. Twist my arm and I’ll tell you Under the Sea, I Just Can’t Wait to Be King, Be Prepared, For the First Time in Forever and yes, Let it Go. Try hating on Let it Go when you’re belting it out after a shitty day, just try it.

Favorite Theme Park Ride?
When I was younger and had never been to Disney World/Land, I read Space Mountain was Justin Timberlake’s favorite ride. So you know that was the first line I jumped in when I finally made it to the parks. It’s awesome, as all their roller coasters are, like Expedition Everest and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. I just asked Brent for some other of our favorite rides and he answered “drinking around the world at Epcott?” He really is the Prince Eric to my Ariel.

Fun Fact: The prince's name is Adam, but it is never mentioned in the movie. The name was later confirmed by the CD-ROM tie-in game.

This is so amazingly 90's.

LOL yes to drinking around the world at Epcot! Epcot totally sucks as a kid (well now I think they have Frozen there, but when I was a kid it sucked) but as an adult it's the most magical place.
Frozen is totally overrated ;) But at least we can agree on Mushu!

@Brent: omg, CD-ROM games! we weren't fancy enough for that, so alas, i never knew about Prince Adam (which is a terrible name, btw)

@Steph: we'll have to agree to disagree about Frozen ; ) totally loving Mushu and Epcott as an adult! and Brent just informed me Epcot only has one "t," whoops.
