The Start of the Season

Can anyone tell me where the eff October went? Yesterday I was laying on a beach in Maui, enjoying my early October birthday, and today my calendar tells me that it’s November 1st. It also tells me that it’s Manatee Awareness Month. Who knew? (and seriously, who comes up w/ this shiz? Are you hiring? I could designate months to causes and fake holidays, no sweat)

I never used to like November. You might be wondering how I can dislike a month with one of the best drinking nights of the year and a holiday that promotes overeating. Easy. Thanksgiving isn’t until the end of the month, and I’m not very good at waiting. Especially when that waiting involves delicious, once-a-year foods. I can’t even wait thirty seconds for my Hot Pocket to cool down (the roof of my mouth is the casualty in that on-going war), let alone the weeks of endless days until the third Thursday of the month.

But November has really turned on the charm in the last few years. This year in particular I’ve been chomping at the bit for it to get here. Betcha didn’t know I’m such a well-informed voter who can’t wait to do my civic duty. That and I’m desperate for the political commericals to end (I’m trying to watch Happy Endings in peace, tone it down w/ the smear campaigns).

November also means one thing; and no, I’m not referring to Movember. Gross. I enjoy a great cause like everyone else, but the beards I see sprouting up everywhere? Not so much. Can’t we raise awareness in another (hygienic) way?

No, I’m talking about the start of Syracuse basketball! It’s not a sport, it’s a way of life. Especially if you live in central New York. You learn two things growing up in Syracuse:
1) Harrison Bakery sells the best half moons
2) SU basketball trumps any other plans you might have. But you don’t have any other plans b/c your plan is always to watch the game. Duh.
3) The bull at Daisy Duke’s is covered in VD and should be avoided at all costs.

Sorry, that’s three things.

Anywho, SU has their first exhibition game tonight against Pace.

cheers to SU basketball season! and pitchers at Chuck's.

Gosh, it feels good to see all the FB posts exclaiming “Go ‘Cuse!” “yeS U!” “Let’s go Orange!” Some things never get old. Unlike the clientele at Daisy Dukes. Yamma hamma, it’s fright night.

And hot pockets will never get colder until you bite them, it's just fact. they will sit there and boil for an hour, til you bite it.

@Brent: Holla! That's what obscure Seinfeld references will get ya.

@Stephanie: I burned my mouth on one just last night. Although, that could have been my bad, I bit into it immediately b/c I realized that you were right and they'll never cool off

You forgot to comment about SU nachos. And I may have ridden the bull in the last two years. I totally got the Seinfeld reference! Nice pic!
