Love and Basketball

I’ve been to two weddings this year, both of them on a Friday. And I tell ya, I could get used to this trend. A three-day weekend, a night of drinking and dancing, and then you still have the whole weekend ahead of you. It’s quite genius.

A good friend of ours was getting married outside of Albany, so B and I drove up Friday morning/afternoon. Once we were out of Boston traffic, there were no problems. Unless you count B’s incessant whining b/c he had refused to eat anything before we left. Or the blasting AC that guzzled up all the gas in my tank. Or the fact that we had hung our wedding clothes using the backseat hanger on MY side of the car so every time I got in the left lane to pass someone I was blindly praying we weren’t going to die. Smooth sailing, all right.

We checked into our hotel room which smelled like a dog had recently checked out. The front desk had a sign posted about rooms accommodating pets. Skip the jokes about us being in the dog’s room; I’m sure B made them already. We promptly switched rooms, much to the chagrin of the front desk clerk. His grumbling complaints eager-to-please attitude sure made us feel welcome.

The wedding and reception were at the same place, which made getting there (and getting drunk) a breeze. Our favors were sunglasses in assorted neon frames with Alvin <3’s Becky scrawled on the sides. So naturally, every picture we took we were wearing the glasses.

After a night filled with mixing beer, liquor and wine, and then sweating it all out on the dance floor, I bet you can guess what we did Saturday morning.

If you guessed waking up at 8:30 to drive 2.5 hours to meet my parents at the Basketball Hall of Fame, you’d be correct.

Nothing like a gymnasium full of screaming children and dribbling basketballs to soothe that throbbing headache.

We had a picnic lunch with my parents which really saved the day. B nibbled on a roll (all his hungover stomach could handle) while I housed a turkey sandwich like it was my last meal. We both chugged water and, with that, were ready to tour the hall.

There were a lot of interactive exhibits and plenty of photo-opps.

the 'cuse is in the house, oh my gosh, oh my gosh!

And after all that, we still had Sunday to recuperate and catch up on The Walking Dead. What did I tell ya; Friday wedding = brilliant.
